New Design At USEB

Today, I’m announcing a new theme design here at USEB. This one is meant to be lighter and generally better looking than the other one. This one is supposed to auto-fit according to your screen resolution, but we’d still recommend using a resolution of at least 1024 pixels in width. Personally, I use 1280 pixels, and that looks smashing! I’ve also just noticed a few formatting bugs in Internet Explorer, but I haven’t found any in Firefox, so that’s yet another reason for using Firefox. Anyway, it shouldn’t have an impact on the content, which should still be readable, although the theme won’t look that great.

So, have a look around, and please report back to me on what you think of it and if you’ve found any serious bugs. Thanks :-)

    Thanks :-)

I don’t think that’ll be possible, but our partner site eSeth has this feature:

Sorry to say it, the font is terrible and the lines fill the whole screen length in a maximized browser.

    pbo,

What lines and what browser are you using?

    nkls,

Here’s how it looks on mine, using Firefox 3 Beta 5

In the meantime, I’ve made it possible for registered users to change the theme back to the original theme, if they want to, or they’re facing problems with the new one.

im using firefox 2 in 800 x 600 and the right column (where links and poll of the week are) gets above text especially long links :S

another thing.. do you know how much will g502 cost ?

  9. Michell Bak says:

How is it now? Apart from that, the old one wasn’t very good at 800 x 600 pixels either. I’d still say that 1024 x 768 is the requirement for having a decent look, while something a bit wider would be ideal.

    G502 will end up at about £150 - £170.

It’s fine, I mean a lot better. but you could use “sony ericsson” logo font for title of each post. that should make it more SE-ish!

Nice to hear the feedback, guys, keep it coming!

Oh, metapex, that’s not possible :(

TBH Michell, I liked the older one more, I tried it on Maxthon Browser ( wich the one I use all the time and it based on IE, + I’m using IE7 not 6, so MAxthon will use IE7 ), and it look exactly like FF 2.0.0.14 wich already installed but it’s not my main browser, maybe the orange is too shiny and not that eye-friendly if we read for long time ( wich is the case ), so is there’s a possiblity to choose between themes ? I donno if WordPress can do this or not as I didn’t went throught WP that much, or another color variant of the current theme may also be enough

I don’t have any issues with my browser (Opera 9.27) it views both mobile and desktop versions beautifully, your claim(Mizzle)that IE has bugs with formatting is True. it’s the worst browser i’ve ever used. firefox? just okay, but i prefer Opera as it fits me better :)

I prefer the old one as well. You could perhaps make the background dark gray and have two divided “egg white” boxes, left being for text, right being for polls, pictures, links, blog stats, etc. As a part time web designer, I highly advise you to use a consistant font in your web design and use one that matches the website. The old style doesn’t really match the bright vibrant orange.

Having said that, I’ll still visit this site no matter how it changes =)

  22. Daniel says:

The top banner is 1680 pixels wide and will hence partly repeat on screens with higher resolution. Naturally one can’t make it arbitrarily wide, but 1920 pixel are pretty much standard on new flat screens today.

  23. Michell Bak says:

Isn’t it possible for you guys (registered users) to switch the theme in your control panel? I believe it is.

Anyway, it’s not still fully finished. I’ll be added stuff here and there, and changing some of the colours as well, but it won’t be much.

    Daniel,

I seriously doubt many people are using a screen of 1920 pixels in width, so I really can’t be bothered to make the banner even larger for this very small group of people, sorry. Maybe in a future revision.

    @Michelll

Good work!!! The navigation is much faster now… Thanks!!! :)

One problem I think is that the ‘Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog’ logo at the top has poor quality… Can you improve it???

Also, the orange color of the top bar is not too pleasing… But I like the orange color of the date icon/logo with each news… Can you use that shade of orange???

    Thanks

    9:11 pm on 4/24/08
  25. Michell Bak says:

The logo / banner is 80% JPG compression, and I’m not sure I want to enhance it further, as it’ll make the already large banner even larger in file size.

The top bar colour - do you mean the orange one in the menu?
