WM Experts’ First Impression Of XPERIA X1
WM Experts is an interesting site, and they sure do know about the stuff they write about. A short while ago, they published a preview of the XPERIA X1, and it looks like they are extremely impressed;
Overall this might be the best hardware I’ve ever seen on a Windows Mobile device. [...] The screen. Good god, the screen is really beautiful. Flush, bright, and very high resolution. [...] So yes, the hardware delivers. [...] They are [the specifications], in short, nothing less than top of the line.
That sounds bloody excellent, don’t you think? Do me and yourself a favour and check out the highly positive preview of the X1 over at WM Experts.

Great review, but I’m wondering what their definition of “flush” is. The screen certainly doesn’t look flush from all the photos I’ve seen.
2:49 pm on 4/18/08That’s because they r just photos… Photos really don’t do justice to the real quality of the screens. But i bet the screen would be absolutely beautiful in person.
4:01 pm on 4/18/08Oh, I know the screen will be amazing. I just don’t see it being flush. There is a definite ridge to it. Not saying that’s a bad thing…just saying.
6:42 pm on 4/18/08Flush just means that it’s not the same pool design as on P1 and P990, where the display is lowered a few millimetres compared to the rest of the front
6:47 pm on 4/18/08That’s what I assume they mean, too, but I don’t see it being absolutely flush. The screen appears to be recessed similar to how the N95’s screen is recessed, but not flush like the W960’s screen is flush. Though perhaps this is not what they meant. Maybe it is simply more flush than the P1 is (which I’ve never played with so I don’t know to what degree its screen is recessed).
6:52 pm on 4/18/08you can be sure that it is not like the W960 screen
i saw a hands-on video on youtube that shows the person selecting a paragraph in IE browser just with his nails.
the screen was very responsive and SUPERIORLY optimized for finger navigation.
take a look at some hands-on videos.!! you will love it.
9:59 am on 4/19/08It’s definitely not like the W960, I agree, but can’t think of what else the writer means then, well, apart from it looking fabulous.
10:17 am on 4/19/08Somebody who knows whether the Xperia can be used as a “mini-laptop” placed on the table in front of you, typing on the keyboard with several fingers (not just the thumbs) and to able to see the screen in a good angle in front of you?
5:13 pm on 4/19/08Very Very excited but is this phone gonna cost $1000 like everyone is specualting?? Stay tuned……
6:46 am on 4/21/08“Somebody who knows whether the Xperia can be used as a “mini-laptop” placed on the table in front of you, typing on the keyboard with several fingers (not just the thumbs) and to able to see the screen in a good angle in front of you?” I asked some days ago.
On a Swedish forum a person from SE answered that this would be possible, but none of the many videos of Xperia that I have seen shows this possibility. So I wonder, will it be possible to tilt the screen so that it can stand in a good angle to be viewed, when the device is placed on the table in front of you, just like a “mini-mini laptop”?
9:41 am on 4/21/08Another way of putting my question is as follows (and this is perhaps more to the point): Will the screen be able not only to be slided, but also to be tilted in a good enough angle to be looked at when device is placed on a table in front of you?
6:39 pm on 4/27/08When will we get to see the X1 in europe… more specific in Denmark?
3:12 am on 4/30/08Morten,
I guess that depends on your height
Andreas,
5:59 pm on 4/30/08I believe it’ll hit the market in September.
Michell, he he… Even if I would be very very high (as I could be…), I would like not to have to bend over the table and device to be able to get a good look at the screen! But I am afraid that SE has not made a device with enough tilt, and this I really cannot understand. Perhaps this can be changed for the better before release?!
