Back in the end of 2007, I asked our readers what their question would be if they had the chance to ask Sony Ericsson’s new CEO, Hideki Komiyama, a question. I then picked out a set of 10 questions, and passed it on to the new and busy CEO. Today I’ve received answers on six of the questions, while the others have been passed on to the corresponding sections at Sony Ericsson for a later reply. You’ll find the answered questions after the break. (more…)

Friday, February 29th, 2008More Photos Of The Upcoming Slider
Wednesday, February 27th, 2008
Here are some more photos of the unknown upcoming slider from Sony Ericsson. It’s not too hard to see that it’ll be based on the A200 software platform. Furthermore, there’s a chance that it might come with an integrated GPS. Based on the photos it seems that Sony Ericsson has chosen to go for a few touch sensitive keys.

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008K660 & W890 Soon Out In Shops
Wednesday, February 27th, 2008
The K660 and W890 models are soon going to be hitting the shops around the world. They’ll be priced somewhere between £200 – £250, which isn’t bad at all.
You can check out the K660 at Sony Ericsson’s 3D demo website, and spin it around to look at whatever detail you might want to look at.
The W890 websites have also been created now, which means you can check out a 3D demo of the phone, try it out for yourself or even go to the WAP portal and download W890 related stuff. What’s interesting is that the Espresso Black version seems to be missing from every single piece of media on the W890. I’m guessing it’s been cancelled.
I’ve already signed up for a W890 review model, and am expecting one to come along this week or early next week
Video – Demo Tours
Monday, February 25th, 2008Here we have a nice little video introduction to the upcoming C702. It’s short, but sweet.
Next we have the G900:
Last, but certainly not least, we have the W890. The W890 will be on sale very shortly so this is something to whet your appetite.
Video – G Series Demo
Monday, February 25th, 2008It’s arguably easy to overlook the G series in the midst of Xperia being announced and the news that Cybershot handsets would use the new C series designation. However, they really are worth a look as I was reminded by this video. The G900 in particular comes across as a nice little device, sporting a 5 MP camera and Wi-Fi as it does. The G700 is no slouch either although it does lack Wi-Fi, but still packs a respectable 3.2 MP camera. Neither handset is as powerful as the X1, and yet there is something about them that strikes me as being useful and yet simple at the same time.
SSX3 – New Game On W960
Monday, February 25th, 2008The new W960 firmware includes a new 3D game called SSX3 by EA Games. It’s the largest and prettiest game I’ve ever seen on a mobile phone, and the best way to describe it would be “impressive”. I’d recommend all W960 users to update the firmware on their phones for the simple fact that this game is now included. I’ve recorded a short video of it, and posted some screenshots after the jump.
New Nomenclature Of Upcoming SE Phones
Monday, February 25th, 2008Sony Ericsson is going to change its old nomenclature of their entire product range. Some among you were surprised of the funky and weird namings of the latest Sony Ericsson products. This scheme will answer almost all of your questions regarding the new namings.
The future names won’t carry the typical “i” in the end of the product name. So the R300 and the R306 are the first phones that follow this new nomenclature. It isn’t really new, since we know the same nomenclature from the Japanese phones already. And here we go:

To get the whole story completed – a brief explanation of the upcoming series and their lower end parts:
• XPERIA vs. G-Series (G stands for: Generation Web)
The G-series is the lower end series compared to the XPERIA series. Both are determined as dedicated smart phone series.
• Cyber-shot – Series vs. Snapshot – Series (new S-series phones)
Cyber-shot has become a well known and well beloved series within the Sony Ericsson portfolio. It will get a new “sub-brand” called Snapshot containing new stylish phones in different form factors poorer equipped than the Cyber-shot models.
• Walkman – Series vs. Radio – Series (new R-series phones)
The smaller brother of the Walkman line will be the poorer equipped Radio line. It will be a nice extension regarding the music department of Sony Ericsson.
Some examples on existing phones:
• C902 – High-End Candybar (Cyber-shot)
• C702 – Mid-Range Candybar (Cyber-shot)
• R306 – Low-End Clamshell (Radio-Series)
Successors will be indexed for example C912… C922… C932, and so on ![]()
As you can see, there are a lot of varieties and combinations… so SE won’t run out of new names that soon
New Low/Mid-End Slider Leaked
Sunday, February 24th, 2008
SE4m has leaked photos of a new Sony Ericsson slider phone. It’s supposedly going to be a low-end phone with a 1.3 MP camera without auto focus. The display seems to be of QVGA resolution (if not, then 176 x 220 pixels), and boasting a diagonal of about 1.9 inches. Design wise the phone is covered in brushed metal with a tint of glass like material/glossy see-through plastic. It’s a tiny phone, measuring about 8 centimetres in height and about 4 centimetres in width. It is however a bit thick – about 15 millimetres.
I could see this as being a generic version of an upcoming Walkman branded music phone. What makes me think so? The speaker around the navigation d-pad… Furthermore, Sony Ericsson might boost the camera resolution to two mega pixels, and call it a style-minded mid-end phone. Some might think I’m crazy calling this a potential mid-end phone, but the large bump on the back might indicate a special feature, and the soft key layout as well as the call and end buttons could indicate the presence of the A200 platform. One thing to notice is the lack of buttons on the sides of the phone.
I’m guessing this will be announced at CeBIT.
Lots of photos after the jump. (more…)
Video – C902 Face Recognition Technology
Friday, February 22nd, 2008The C902 features face recognition technology, which tracks a face in a photograph in order to focus on it. Here we can see the technology in action; watch as the subject moves his head and the handset tracks the location of his face.
