K660 review by Mobile-Review

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

Mobile-Review.com has yet again reviewed a Sony Ericsson phone and this time it is the K660, which is being marketed as a web phone for the youth. I liked this review of K660 and I think Eldar makes some good points along the long lines of text, but I also disagree with some of his sayings – like the one, where he says no K6xx phones have been successful. In Denmark both the K600 and K610 has been very popular and helped kick-starting 3G. Anyhow, here’s the link for the review. Enjoy!

New frontpage design

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

SE seems to be very busy redesigning their complete web appeareance. After the structure change and the press page relaunch (USEB told you about that earlier here and here), they now have also a spanking new and all fresh frontpage, as you can see at the pic below:

W960 unboxing

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

I just got my W960 and it’s great! I like just about anything about it except for the irritating protection plastic layer above the screen. It feels cheap and I have doubts about how long it’ll last. Here’s the mandatory unboxing video (and no, I didn’t drop the battery on purpose!) and the pictures are available after the break.

New design at Sony Ericsson press site

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

OK, I admit. You’ve got to be a real hardcore Sony Ericsson fanatic to spot this, however I did. Sony Ericsson has updated its web design at the press site. A change that was well needed, if you ask me. It simply didn’t fit the new style of Sony Ericsson.

Anyway, browsing press material is now much easier and it generally just looks better. Have a look for yourself! There are still some minor problems, but I’m guessing they’ll be fixed soon.

5 things you DIDN’T know about Sony Ericsson

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

1. Testing of prototypes. They’ve got a test center in Germany for testing of prototypes. They have fired all “out of house” prototype testers in order to keep everything behind closed doors – however operator testers have still got a limited access to non-announced prototypes.

2. Sony Ericsson leaks informations! Yep, you read that right. Sony Ericsson – again, yes, the mobile manufacturer itself – leaks informations about upcoming phones and plans. But of course the leaks are carefully planned.

3. Sony Ericsson keeps an eye on us. I’d bet you didn’t know that Sony Ericsson are eagerly reading the posts at different mobile phone forums – like Esato – and they also read mobile phone blogs. Sometimes even posting, too!

4. Successor’s successor. The K850 is fairly new, but the successor is already in the works and so is the successor of K850’s successor probably also. Mobile phone manufacturers are always years ahead in terms of successors as it usually takes about three years to create a mobile phone.

5. Extreme amount of ideas. But unfortunately most of the ideas will never become reality. For about every 8 ideas, one will become reality – and even this idea, will end up being changed lots of times before it gets announced and released. Some will even get ditched after the product announcement – one could be the Z700, which was cancelled or the programmable Bluetooth camera ball a few years back.

Why are UIQ 3 downloads so slow?

Monday, December 10th, 2007

[UPDATED] This have really been a problem, that has been bugging me for a long time. UIQ 3 download speeds are absolutely ridiculous – here’s an example. I’ve got a 2 Mbps Internet connection at home and download speeds are about 210 KB/s. However when downloading with my P990, the download speed is only about 3 KB/s – that’s 70 times lower than normal speed! I’ve been trying to ask a few people, who knows a lot about UIQ, but nobody has been able to give me an answer. Maybe I’ll try to contact UIQ and see what they have to say. I have now contacted UIQ.

In the mean time, I’d like to ask you guys if you’ve experienced this, too, and what phone you are using and connection type (WLAN, 3G, etc.). Thanks in advance – I’d like to get to the bottom of this!

Update! I have now gotten a reply from UIQ. It appears that the fault is not located with UIQ, but rather Sony Ericsson’s hardware. Maybe I’ll try to have a chat with Sony Ericsson about this, as this is by far not acceptable.

Cool Sony Ericsson dice

Monday, December 10th, 2007

Just saw this over at JUSTAMP. It’s a metal dice with a Sony Ericsson ball logo replacing the “1″ side of the dice. It looks like the other sides are decorated with diamonds, but highly doubt they are real :-P

W910 review published!

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

I’ve just finished my review of Sony Ericsson W910 – a phone I am very fond of using as it’s truly great! The W910 is marketed as a music phone but it does so much more than that, and the new A200 platform does wonders for it.

Anyhow, this review of W910 is my first large scale review and it is split up in four pages covering most areas of the phone. If you have any comments on the result or you’re missing something, please let me know and I’ll try to make it better.

Enough talking, here’s the W910 review! Enjoy! :-D

Sony Ericsson + Hello Kitty = Nightmare?

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

Just read that Sony Ericsson in Hong Kong is now teaming up with Sanrio, which means that characters such as Hello Kitty and My Little Melody will be used in Sony Ericsson phones bought in the holiday season. The phones will come preloaded with Sanrio content and they’ll also come with a special phone cradle. Plus, there’s also an opportunity to win a 85 centimeter tall stuffed Hello Kitty doll. Could this get any better? Well, personally I’m not a fan of Hello Kitty, so YES!
