P1 now ships with a GPS in India

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

Some days ago a comment was posted here about P1 now being available with a Bluetooth GPS in India. Today I found a picture of an advert in a news paper in India at Esato.com. The pricing is Rs 22.995 (580 USD) with the GPS and 20.995 (510 USD) without the GPS. I can’t seem to find a currency converter, so if someone can, please let me know about this Thanks, Suresh! :-)

Patent on underwater image capturing

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

Now, that’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout!!! That’s innovation! Sony Ericsson has just filed a patent on something very cool – underwater image capturing! The picture does look a bit weird, but I guess this would require the camera housing to be 100 percent sealed and not let anything in (like all the dust on the K850!). If they fail to do so, it will be a huge failure! Anyway, here’s the description from the patent and picture below :-)

A housing may include a first portion that includes a window configured to allow a lens to capture images viewed through the window, and a first mating surface. The housing may include a second portion that includes a second mating surface adapted to mate with the first mating surface to form a watertight seal, at least one button to provide a signal to a terminal supported in the second portion, and a receiving surface on an inner surface of the second portion adapted to receive an insert, where the insert is adapted to be removeably coupled to the receiving surface on a first side and to receive the terminal via a second side.

I’ve won Sony Ericsson fan stuff

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

Esato has a cool game called Playtime!, where the target of the game is to be the one to post a certain reply number (i.e. reply number 35). Then you’ll get a prize! I’ve won 6 of these rounds and have scored some Sony Ericsson stuff – a wrist strap, a SE fan and a black SE drawstring bag. Furthermore I’ve won some Motorola and Nokia stuff.

I would like to say thanks to Esato moderator masseur, who has made this possible, and also to PeterKay for donating some stuff!

Be sure to check it out at http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=161127&start=0

New Sony Ericsson clock patent and 2007 Content Awards winners

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

se_clock_patent.jpgIt looks like Sony Ericsson has filed a patent about some sort of clock display. Here’s how it’s explained:

The invention relates to a clock display and particularly a clock display comprising a combined electronic display unit and mechanical clock hands. The clock hand has a visible state for showing the time and a transparent state used when in it is not desired to obscure the underlying display unit. The clock display may be incorporated in a portable device, such as a mobile telephone or a wrist watch.

se_cleaning_display.jpgIn addition to this patent, Sony Ericsson has also filed another one – this one being about a self cleaning display. The idea behind this patent – as described in one of SE patent applications – is to add a cleaning slider to the display and connect it to the opening/sliding mechanism of the phone itself. This doesn’t sound that nice in my ears and the concept picture does look a bit silly, too. I hope that’s not the best the R&D team can come up with!

Finally, the winners of the Sony Ericsson Content Awards 2007 have been found. In the category “Gaming” the winning game was “Playman Extreme Running”, in category “Imaging” the winning application was “Pull Face Image”, in “Productive Mobility” the winning application was (of course) “Opera Mini 4.0″. The “Music & Audio” award went to TrackID by Gracenote and the “Themes & Graphics” award finally went to “The geeks” themes and graphics. Furthermore Sony Ericsson felt it necessary to give a Special Recognition Award to “Vringo” for best use of the functionalities available in Sony Ericsson phones. Congratulations to all the winners!
