How to: Use your PC’s Internet connection on your A200 mobile phone via USB

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

If you’ve been wondering how you can use your PC’s Internet connection on your Sony Ericsson A200 mobile phone, then wait no more because I have the answer for you!

But first of all, let’s make sure that your phone is really running the A200 platform – right now there are K530, K630, K850, V640, W890, W910 & Z750 running this platform, but more will come in the future. The easiest way to know if it’s A200 or the old A100 is by looking at the softkeys – if there are two softkey options in the phone, it’s A100, if there are three, it’s A200. Quite simple, right?

Anyway, lets get on with it. Please note that you must have PC Suite 3.0 installed on your computer and you have to have had the phone connected to the PC first, so all drivers have been installed and are working. Also please have in mind that I’m running a Danish version of Windows XP, so my translations might not be totally accurate with the English ones – and it may not be the exact same way to do this on Vista! No announcement on the 15th of November

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

[UPDATED] There’ll be no announcement on the 15th of November – actually the announcement of three phones and one accessory on the 6th was the last announcement this year.

As a follow up on my earlier post, Aldo Liguori, Head of Global Communications & PR at Sony Ericsson, has now returned with a reply after double checking.

- Thanks for the additional information, but I’ve done a search and can confirm that we have no plans to make any new product announcement in November. What we announced last week, on the 6th, is the last product announcement we’ll be making this year. All Sony Ericsson product announcements, regardless of their nature, are handled and co-ordinated by my group in London. I don’t know where your source has heard this information but it’s not true, he said in the reply I got earlier today.

So, there you have it. No more announcements from Sony Ericsson this year.

Update! Some say that there’ll be an info-event about a week after November the 15th, and it’s possible that the P5 announcement could be discussed here.

K850 review posted!

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

I’ve just finished the K850 review, and have published it! It’s the largest review on The Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog at the moment with well over 2.000 words. But if you’re not that high on long texts and words, there are many pictures, too! :-)

If you feel like something’s missing or you have any questions, please don’t hesitate on leaving a comment, and I’ll do my best to fix it or answer your question.

You’ll find the review here!

My P5i concept

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

Had some spare time and thought I’d try to do (another) P5i concept. I know there are loads of these flying around the Internet already, but I think this one is one of the best :-) The reason why I created the back-button is because I really miss it and I hope it’ll be there :-D D-pad? Well, I liked the one on the P990.

K850 camera: ISO speeds & xenon flash

Friday, November 9th, 2007

Here are two examples, that will be used in my K850 review. The first one shows what effects the ISO speeds has on taking pictures (with the flash on), and the second shows just how good and necessary a proper flash can be. Enjoy! :-)

(yes, I know I made a mistake by calling it ISO level, sorry)

K850 review soon finished

Friday, November 9th, 2007

k850_small.jpgLately I’ve been reviewing the K850, and my review of it is almost complete. I still need to do some more testing, and add some more to the review before it gets published, but I am counting on it getting published this Sunday if not earlier. If you’re a bit curious, here are the first intro lines of the review :-)

The K850 is Sony Ericsson’s camera flagship phone of the year packing the 5 megapixel camera with auto focus, Xenon flash, BestPic, Cyber-shot technologies and a whole lot of extra features. But of course it’s not just a phone with a great camera – it’s a phone with the new Sony Ericsson user interface and platform [...] large and vivid 2.2 inch TFT display [...] touch sensitive softkeys [...] innovations in the design [...].

Stay tuned for the full review!

No announcement on the 15th?

Friday, November 9th, 2007

Earlier today I asked Aldo Liguori, Head of Global Communications & PR at Sony Ericsson, about the upcoming (or not?) announcement on the 15th. As far as he knew, nothing was planned.

- I’m not aware of any announcement on the 15th of November. I’ll double check and let you know, he said.

I’ll update this post as soon as I get a reply from him again – and if there’s something happening, I’ve asked for a comment on what it’ll be, so stay tuned! ;-)

Last night’s Sony Ericsson announcement

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

Last night Sony Ericsson announced three new mobile phones and one accessory. Here’s a little on each. Sorry about the late posting, was busy last night working.

K660 is an HSDPA-enabled mobile phone with the new version of the NetFront web browser now also featuring a cursor for browsing large websites. It’s developed for being used in landscape mode (but other SE phones can do this, too!), and Sony Ericsson has added four web shortcut keys, which seems to be a good idea. But I’m not too sure how it’ll work with the screen being in landscape and the keypad still being for portrait usage. We’ll see, I guess. It’ll also have RSS widgets on the standbyscreen, which is a nice feature! It has a 2 megapixel camera without auto focus, 256 MB M2-card comes along, and the screen is 2 inches large and has a QVGA resolution, showing up to 262.144 colors. It’ll be available some time in Q1 next year with a price tag around £180 – £200.

W380 is the manufacturer’s new low-end Walkman phone with a 1.3 megapixel camera, Walkman 2.0, TrackID, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP-support and a radio. It comes bundled with a 512 MB M2-card, that’s capable of storing around 270 songs in eAAC+ format. It’s also got a new feature called ‘Gesture Control’, so if you get an incoming call or the alarm starts, all you have to do is shake the phone, and the sound will go off. Pretty nice! It’ll come in two colors: Electric Purple & Magnetic Grey, will ship in Q1 and will end up at around £130 – £150.

W890 was the last phone announced yesterday. It’s the successor of W880, and comes bundled with a massive 2 gigabyte M2-card with storage room for over a thousand songs. But that’s not all – it also comes with the HBH-DS220 stereo Bluetooth headset and the Bluetooth speaker ball MBS-100. It’s got HSDPA and Walkman 3.0 for listening to music. Sony Ericsson itself calls it a high quality listening experience, so that sounds nice. The camera is a 3.2 megapixel without auto focus (seems like this isn’t really for Walkman phones). Screen is a QVGA TFT display with a 2 inch diagonal and is capable of showing up to 262.144 colors like the other phones. It’ll start shipping in Q1 in three colors: Espresso Black, Mocha Brown and Sparkling Silver. Price will end up around £320.

MD300 is a USB modem with HSDPA-support. It’s a plug’n'play modem, so all you have to do is plug it in and it should be ready to work. MD300 supports only the 3.6 mbps HSDPA, and not the faster 7.2 mbps. It supports Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Mac OS X. It’ll come in Q1.
