Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Well guys, looks like I’ve revived my computer and I’m currently trying to install everything again and such – but I’ll be back later this evening!

Anyways, I’ve got some info for you guys.

Text deleted. Also, Sony Ericsson won’t release any devices with DVB-H this year, but next year.

Hope you’re all well! :-)

Michell has got the virtual flu

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Unfortunately our blog owner Michell Bak got a really serious problem with a virus on his system.

He is exerted to fix the problem as soon as possible but at the moment he’s not able to provide us with new info.

We hope that he will get rid of the virus as soon as possible and wish him good luck.

Update: Michell could recover the most of the important files with a Linux-On-CD version.

He is now reinstalling his entire operating system and all programs he needs.

When everything will be plain sailing he’ll be on late this evening :)

Pictures of an all black K850

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

Mobil.cz has got an exclusive bringing the first pictures of an all black K850. In my opinion it looks great and I think it’ll be announced soon – beginning of December ;-)

Update! It seems that this device is a prototype having no colouring. However I am sure that the K850 will pop up in more colours in 2008 ;-)

PlayStation phone – rumors reignited

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

Thoughts have been flying around about a upcoming PlayStation branded Sony Ericsson phone and it has been quite an exciting subject in the Sony Ericsson related forums all over the world.

Now Sony Computer Entertainment co-chief operating officer Jim Ryan has commented on a possible future convergence of PlayStation and Sony Ericsson handsets.

- The PlayStation is a proven success and so is Sony Ericsson. Convergence with the two arms working together is definitely plausible, Jim Ryans says to Economic Times.

It could be possible that Sony Ericsson is working on a counter back at Nokia’s recently launched Ngage series of handsets.

New reviewing system coming soon

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

I’ve just created a new way of reviewing phones, so that it’ll be much nicer and better for you guys to read and understand. This new system will automatically make the reviews longer and more in-depth going so you’ll end up knowing the most interesting aspects of the phone, when you’re done reading it. I’ve looked at some big mobile phone reviewing websites and have gathered some information there about how they do it and what I like and dislike about it to finally create the ultimate way of reviewing phones (I hope) :-)

Here’s an overview of how upcoming reviews from this site will look:

Page 1

  • Intro
  • Advantages and disadvantages
  • Design, size and compared to other phones

Page 2

  • Design in detail
  • User interface
  • Applications and organizer (calender, alarm, etc.)

Page 3

  • Camera
  • Music (and FM-radio)
  • Games
  • Connections & Internet

Page 4

  • Phonebook
  • Messaging
  • Calls
  • Conclusion

I hope you like it, and if you have any suggestions to the system or have spotted something that could be improved, please don’t hesitate to post a comment.

If I have the time I’ll try to ‘convert’ the K850 review into this way of reviewing and of course add more content to it. No promises, though.

Oh, I almost forgot! This new system will also bring much more (non watermarked!) pictures (with much better quality than before!) to the reviews ;-)

Security hole found in Sony Ericsson phones

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

It seems that two research scientists – Adrian Nowak and Karsten Sohr – at Bremen University in Germany has found a security hole in Sony Ericsson phones that can give applications read & write access to the system files, and in worst cases exploit this access. However this can also give users the ability to change or delete some of the “unwanted” system files such as protected ring tones, parts of operator branding and alike.

The “affected” phones – so to speak – are phones sold between 2005 – 2007, which means that it’s everything from the good old K750 to newer phones such as T650 – maybe also the K850 and W910, but that’s not for sure. Only Java phones (those running OSE and not Symbian UIQ) has this “problem”.

Personally I don’t think it’s that much of a problem as the user must grant the application permission to access these files. So please do not worry about this – it’s still totally safe to use your phone and install applications. It just shows that the students at Bremen University should have better things to do than this ;-)
