Mobile-Review has reviewed K770

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

Mobile-Review.com has now also reviewed the new K770 Cyber-Shot phone. K770 features a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus and a LED flash. It has 3G, and is comparable to the K810 in almost all areas. You can find the review here, and here’s the conclusion.

Despite its 72-chord polyphony, the K770i is no better than other Sony Ericsson branded phones in terms of audio performance. The loudspeaker is average volume-wise and has a great deal of bass in its sounding, so the call alert is easily heard even on a busy street. The silent alert is of moderate power or even slightly higher than that, but even this fact isn’t an excuse for the situations when it proves too weak to be felt. The reception part is in line with other products from the company, meaning that it is quite decent.

The handset is expected to be available for purchase in late October, in Europe it will retail for 290-320 Euro. Compared with its rivals, specifically the Sony Ericsson K800i, the handset has the only trump – its design, and nothing more going for it. If you pay more attention to image quality and deem it a crucial aspect of your future phone, this is the place where the flagship outruns the K770i hands down again. There is nothing strange in it, though – the flagship sales well and the company decided not to sabotage its potential on the market. Will the K770i get to the top of the charts? It’s a tricky question, but I think for a certain group of users the Sony Ericsson K770i could be an excellent purchase. The device has its own face, so it makes many heads turn to you. It is a pleasant solution that will never be known as the most technology-savvy solution or a handset jam-packed with features, moreover, it has never claimed these titles. Its sales will revolve chiefly around impulse-driven purchases, rather than thought-out decisions and assessments based on product reviews like this one.

K630 announced – a V640 duplicate?

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Yesterday Sony Ericsson announced the K630. It looks like a V640, its features are like V640 and it really is a V640, but without the Vodafone branding.

It features HSDPA, a 2 megapixel camera, the new user interface, FM radio, music keys and a nice looking, clean design with orange on the sides. It does look like a Walkman phone, if that’s what you are thinking, and it even has those dedicated music keys. It’s pretty obvious that it’s just a generic version of V640, which was a music handset exclusively for Vodafone. A 256 MB Memory Stick Micro-card will come with the phone, and if you want any bigger ones, the phone can use cards up to 4 GB (official statement, it’ll probably be able to take bigger cards, too).

K630 weighs 97 grams and measures 103 x 47 x 15.5 mm. It will be available in two colors – Havana Gold (hmm…!) and Quick Black. It will hit the stores around the same time as V640, which means for the Christmas sales.

Small announcement

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Sony Ericsson had a small announcement earlier today where they announced the K630 (basically a non-Vodafone-branded V640) and the MBS-100. Not really the announcement we were expecting. They’ve also published the results for Q3, and everything’s looking pretty nice.

More about everything tomorrow. Right now I’ve gotta get some sleep…

My photoshopped W880 in red

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

w880_red_photoshop.jpgI just finished reading some of the usual number of blogs I read every day, and saw that Teemu from SEfanatics had written something about him wanting to see a red version of the W880 – and then I thought how cool a bloody-red colored W880 would look! So I started up Photoshop, and began my editing. The final result isn’t as flattering and cool, as I’d imagined (I wanted the red color to be more blood-like), but here it is! I hope you like it! 8-) You can press the thumbnail for a larger view.

PS. Please don’t start posting this as an upcoming Sony Ericsson phone or color variant at all the different forums, because it’s simply not – it’s a photoshopped picture!

Announcement tomorrow

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Shaliron at Esato forums has just posted information about an upcoming announcement tomorrow with 2 – 4 phones being announced. This is his update:

  • Slim clamshell
Will be available in Purple. To be announced on Thursday (tomorrow), the 11th of October.
  • The Z350 should be announced tomorrow.
  • The W350 should be announced tomorrow. (more info here)
  • The W890 will come in ‘Pitch Black’, as seen here. It will be announced tomorrow. (more info here)

Furthermore I am counting on more than phones being announced ;-)

GSMArena’s review of W960

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

w960_gsmarena_review.jpgGSMArena has posted a very nice review of the upcoming Sony Ericsson W960 – the ultimate Walkman phone right now! They seem to be very excited about the phone, that will be available around December this year. Here’s the conclusion for the lazy ones

Summing it up, the Sony Ericsson W960 easily offers more than any other Sony Ericsson Walkman before. Positive changes compared to the W950 are noticeable both in system performance and in the hardware equipment. In terms of software, the handset is identical to the previous UIQ 3 mobiles and, when compared to Nokia S60 smartphones, loses only on VoIP capabilities, which are much more elaborate in the latest S60 mobiles.

The biggest controversy as we see it, when making the purchase decision for W960, lies in the use of a touchscreen interface for a regular smartphone. Our opinion is that a smartphone interface should be either optimized for finger touching or the screen should not be touch sensitive at all. Pulling the stylus out for anything except handwriting on the screen is not justifiable. So, just to put it shortly, the W960 would have been a great choice if it had some sort of a D-pad to allow easy single-handed navigation through the menu options without the need for stylus all the time.

However, we find the Sony Ericsson W960 a great choice for all you music fans that don’t mind using both hands for operating your handset.

Actually this is the first review after the new features of GSMArena – this means that you can now find a 360 degree “picture” of the phone. Enjoy the review! :-)

S500 back – now with a fixed keypad

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

s500_keypad.jpgIf you’ve read this blog from the start or read my other blog called MobileXpert, then you would know that my mom’s S500 was sent to a repairer because the keypad was broken. Well she got it back about 5 days ago, and the keypad has now been fixed. HOWEVER, it took more than five weeks to fix it! That’s simply not acceptable in my opinion.

Anyway, it’s back and I’ll upload some pictures for the gallery soon!

Great sound from the yet unannounced MBS-100

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

A friend of mine has tried the yet unannounced globe speaker system coming up from Sony Ericsson called MBS-100. According to him it was pretty small, and it had a good sound quality for what it is. It was better than the MPS-70 (the speakers that come with the black W880), so it sounds pretty nice!

I’m counting on these speakers being announced very soon, as they’ve already appeared on the Sony Ericsson site for the MTV Music Awards show. It will be in shops before the end of this year, and it’s not as big as it seems. It’s comparable to a big tennis ball or a small handball ball. And I’m still almost positive that I know the designer of this speaker system :)
